The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
In the 2022 Gujarat elections, the Jetpur assembly seat in Rajkot district was one of the important seats in the state. Sitting MLA Jayeshbhai Vitthalbhai Raddiya was in the fray from BJP. Raddiya won this election, defeating AAP’s Rohit Bhuwa by 76,926 votes.
Barring this election, the Congress has won seven elections here. The sitting MLA from the BJP, Jayeshbhai Vitthalbhai Raddiya, won the election in 2012 on a Congress ticket, but resigned from the party in 2013. Later in the by-election, he won the election on the BJP seat.
BJP won here in 2017
The BJP had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election BJP candidate Jayeshbhai Vitthalbhai Raddiya defeated Ravi Bhai Ambalia of INC by 25 thousand votes. A total of nine candidates were in the fray in this election. Barring the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining seven were forfeited.
Prior to 2017, this seat was won by the Congress in the 2012 elections. Jayeshbhai Vithalbhai Raddiya, who contested from Congress, defeated BJP candidate Jashuben Korat.
Patel and Dalit voters play a decisive role
The Leua Patel community has the largest population in this seat in Rajkot district, which has a strong BJP influence. Along with this, the Dalit, Minority and Koli communities also play an important role in the elections.
BJP has fielded sitting MLA Jayeshbhai Vitthalbhai Raddiya on this seat for the 2022 elections. Whereas, Congress has made Deepakbhai Keshavlal Vekaria its candidate from here. Rohit Bhuwa is in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. This seat will go to polls in the first phase on December 1. The results will come on December 8.
BJP had won six seats in the district in 2017.
